Fusils

English Fusil

Many fusils were military firearms. Note that this one can mount a bayonet.

Colonists used trade fusils as multipurpose guns. Developed for trade with American Indians, they were short, light, and mobile. The colonists used them to hunt flying birds or small to medium game. They were also economical, using less powder and lead, because of their small caliber.

Take a look at how little wood is used on this fusil! That makes it lighter, but also more fragile.
